I’ve been thinking a lot about my books this past week or so. I want you to read them. I want you to give me a try. There are a LOT of books to choose from out there. Free this, samples of that. I try to give my growing readership here some interesting and (hopefully) valuable writing about writing. Sometimes serious, sometimes not so serious (and even once about Bette Midler). Bottom line, I aims to please. And I aim to keep on keepin’ on.

But today, in typical Phreaky Friday Phashion, I want you to accept a free gift from me. All I ask in return is your email address so I can gift you the Kindle version of my 5-star rated first book. No other strings, catches, or twists. Oh, and I promise not to divulge your email to ANYONE for ANY REASON. You send it to me via the temp email address below and I immediately gift you a copy of Black Beast. I am that sure you will love it. All I ask in return is that you accept the gift. Download it and at some point give it a read. It’s fast-paced. It has a character in Detective Bobby Mac you can really get behind. If you love horror or the occult, it has some of that. If you don’t, it doesn’t matter—it’s not the core theme at all. A reviewer said this about the book:

The main character is not what you would expect, a one-legged cop, ‘Bobby Mac’. I won’t say anything to give the story away, but let’s say he is a lot more than what the eye see’s or your imagination allows for. A very three dimensional character, growing from first page to the last.

There is police work involved, espionage, fantasy, religion, military twists, drama, things to make you angry, laugh and even shed a tear or two.”

If you read my blog regularly, you know I almost never plug my work. That’s not why I write this blog. But I need to get my book in your hands. I believe in it that much. 34 of the 39 reviewers gave it 5-stars (and I don’t know TEN people I could convince to write a review, much less two who would write anything untrue just to make ME feel better).

Please just send me your email.

Send it here.

I will not use it for anything but to gift you a copy of Black Beast. That’s it. You just have to promise me you’ll download the sucker and at some point give it a try. The good news is, if you love it, there’s already a sequel (and a third due out by summer)! Also the sequel is currently only 99 cents ($2.00 off)! I swear, though, if you love the first and still don’t want to spend the 99 cents, I’ll gift you the second one, too. I mean it. I want you to read my books. I am that sure I’ll surprise you.

And I really want you to meet Bobby Mac. That character has lived in my head for years. He’s the one character my inner muse just had to write. I started writing him in a lot of cities, but it wasn’t until I settled in Denver that I knew this was his home. Here’s what readers have said about Bobby:

“It won’t take you long to discover Bobby Mac is a multi-dimensional character. The discoveries he makes regarding his heroic family roots and the evil are fascinating.

This novel always kept me guessing and with Guthrie’s uncanny ability to keep the prose tight and the action flowing, this was a total pleasure to read. The description of the crime scene is believable and from what many in law enforcement have said, very accurate as well.

It takes an author with heart and soul to write a section as he did that will tug at your heartstrings.”

“Guthrie manages to weave a story of the black arts that carries you along, believing each unbelievable event in much the same way as his protagonist, Bobby Mac, does – reluctantly – but knowing in our hearts, it must be so.

Bobby Mac is also a stunning new hero – manly, principled, flawed and pained – completely likable. We’re pulling for Bobby Mac from the start. I’m looking forward to other Bobby Mac adventures.”

“Every time I picked up my kindle it was just a few sentences before I was drawn into Bobby Mac’s world. I saw the characters so vividly it was as if I was watching the film version (and surely there will be one with such a great plot).

Guthrie has created a protagonist in Bobby Mac that will push Alex Cross all the way, and I can see this turning into an epic series of novels.”

“Since Bobby Mac is a thoughtful dude given to armchair wisdom, the exploration of his psyche is one of the high points of the book.”

I know you’ll love Bobby Mac so much I am willing to let you discover him for no other cost than giving him a chance. Phreaky? Maybe. Great business sense? I’m not sure. But I know what I want, and that is for every person I can convince to do so to read my book. It’s not that long, it really does move, there’s lots of action, and a character I can almost promise you you’ll love.

So what do you say?

4 Responses to Phreaky Phree Friday: You Definitely Want to Read This One

  1. Sarah Hulcy says:

Thank you for making this book available.

  2. Trish says:

I envy the people who are going to read your writing for the first time as they discover what a masterful storyteller you are. This was the first book I read by you. I remember the excitement I experienced getting into this great story, the thrill as I turned each page to see what was coming next and even being disappointed when it ended. Was so glad when you published LOST. Can’t wait for the finale and all the other books waiting to be written!

  3. Rob, my paperback of Black Beast has been sitting on my nightstand for a couple months. Collecting dust, unfortunately. Not because I’m not intrigued. I’m just ADD when it comes to what book I’m going to read next, rarely sticking to the one I’d originally picked out. I don’t think it’s helped that it’s not on my bookshelf when I go looking for the next thing to read. But I’m now committed because I just bought the Kindle edition, which I can read on my lunch hour and breaks at work. Your free offer (and everything else you do) is very generous. I figured the best way to say thanks is to buy the book instead. I’ll let you know what I think. Soon.

  4. Thanks for this offer! I literally just got a kindle yesterday from my hubby (early birthday present) and it’s in desperate need of filling. Your book was already on my TBR list!
