About Rob

Author Rob "R.S." Guthrie

I have been writing since college—mostly fictional romps: short stories, partially finished novels, and even one micro-story (140 characters or less, spaces included). I have also written a few song lyrics (I no longer play any instruments, nor do I sing very well). One of my short stories placed 11th out of ~2000 in a national contest. Another (a Halloween short-short) took 1st place in a Southern California newspaper contest (the publication will remain nameless because I don’t want to embarrass them or me).

My only other claim to success right now is having published my first novel. I self-published, so it’s difficult at times to see it as a “success”, but I never submitted it because, frankly, I didn’t consider it my best work. I did, however, believe it was a good beach read and therefore decided to share it. It has done well, judging by the feedback and reviews at least.

I am currently working on the sequel to my first novel, and also on my magnum opus—a detective/cop novel set in my home state of Wyoming. If you care to read the first chapter, it was published in New West Magazine here. (I guess that does qualify as one more success, particularly considering that was my first paying gig!) [NOTE: New West is currently down, moving locations—I also posted the first chapter here.)

I live in Colorado. It ain’t Wyoming, but there are actual day jobs here that pay well. One of these days, I hope to retire to the remote mountains again and continue to write.

Oh, and I love dogs. I mean REALLY. We have three young Australian Shepherds and a Chihuahua that thinks she is a 40-pound Aussie!

Thanks for visiting my blog. My author website is here.

Ahem…I don’t believe in spellcheck. Should be *perused*. 😉 The OCD editor in me. Great blog post today BTW.

Trust me, I am so OCD about typos that I would have offered my administrator services to you—editing your previous post and erasing this one, so you could rest easy under the gravity of your faux pas! 😀 <==smile instead of *wink* because I am only half-kidding!!!

  3. Hi Rob, always like your Twitter posts, now I’ve found your blog. Good. I like your “About” and already know why you were a hit with me – 3 Aussies and a Chi ? Steal my heart. I have seven Pomeranians, a couple are champions, another wants to go in the ring and be one, too. I Love all dogs, well, except those who bite me. I’ve even forgiven them, tho. Good on you for already producing four books. Impressive, Rob. Press on

Hi, Kathleen! So glad you found it! Hey, but be careful…if my Chi hears you call her that, it’ll crush her. She fully believes she’s our 4th Aussie!! :)

    Hi R.S.,
Two things: The first is that I wondered if you would be willing to do an interview for my blog ( http://kltoth.wordpress.com ). The second is I wondered if you would be interested in participating in The Next Big Thing Blog Hop. I am going to be referencing five authors in my own participating post and would like to list you as one of them. It would mean answering ten questions about your current work in progress to give your fans a heads-up. Let me know if your interested.

On the interview, absolutely! Love to. On the other thing, the blog hop, although this one intrigued me a bit more than most, I was already asked by some others, and (like chain letters) I promised myself a while back I would not do blog chains (my term) anymore. But like I said, the interview (if you still want me) I’d be honored to do. :)
